Antam names Wika to build conveyor belt
            State-run mining company PT Aneka Tambang (Antam) has appointed state engineering and construction firm PT Wijaya Karya (WIKA) to build a conveyor belt worth US$ 13.5 million at its ferronickel factories in Pomalaa, South Sulawesi.
            Antam corporate secretary Bimo Budi Satriyo said that conveyor belt project was aimed to optimize and modernize Antam’s factories.
            “The conveyor belt construction is scheduled to be completed in May 2013. We appointed Wika because it obtained the highest score during assessment process,” Bimo said on Wednesday.
            Wika corporate secretary Natal Argawan Pardede said his firm expected to sign the contract with Antam in the middle of this month.
            “We expect the construction process to take about 17 to complete months after the signing, the belt conveyor will be about 400 meters long,” Natal said recently.
            Bimo said Antam indeed needed to modernize its two oldest factories, as they were built in 1974 and 1994. A third factory was established in 2006.
            “The first two factories are already old, thus they need optimization to reach higher capacity,” he added.
            For the optimization and modernization project, along with the development of a coal power plant, Antam allocated $450 to $500 million.
            “The project, known as MOP-PP, began in March 2010, but we have just started the extensive works this year and are targeting to finish the whole project at the end of the first half of 2014,” Bimo added.
