Conversation Analysis
1.
Character
and Characterization
From
this conversation, Puji is speaker 1 (O1) that she is a type of active person
because she takes the floor. She is also a type of tolerant person because she will
lend her book to Isna. Without long thinking, she gives her book to Isna when
Isna wait her friend (Ningrum) whereas formerly Isna will borrow the book to
Ningrum, but Ningrum can’t be called and she has been waited her at long time.
While Isna is a type of panic and
confuse person because she is so confuse when Ningrum is long to wait and she
also can’t be called. She is also a type of person who likes to hasty as while
she gets a message from her friends to go back to her boarding house.

Aspect
of Conversation
a. Turn taking
which is the change of speaker during conversation. The first utterance gets
response from the second speaker when Puji’s is greeting to Isna who is waiting
Ningrum in the park of campus (1st and 2nd conversation).
The 3rd is about a question that be given by Puji to Isna because
she seems alone and confuse in the campus park. And the response from Isna is
the 4th utterance, she asked “mmmm”
means she thinks before answer Puji’s question. There are some mistakes in
Isna’s pronunciations such as “maybe” and “message”. As must as she asked
[meIbi] but she asked [maibi] and [‘mesidЗ] but [missej]. And also
there is mistake the word that be spoken by Isna which as must as “soon” but
she asked “now”. From the 22nd until 25th are closing of
the conversation among them.
b. Uppercase that
gives emphasize of utterance. Such as ningRUM, Now, sEmantic, OK, welCOME, yA,
gUYs.
c. Backchannels is
vocal indications of attention, “mmmm” (see 4th) means thinks to
answer, “mmmm” (see 10th, 15th) means thinking again,
“ohhh” (see 11th, 13th) means understanding of the
utterance meaning from Isna.
d. Adjacency pair is
a sequence of two utterances by different speakers in conversation. Like in 19th
“OK” as answer from 18th, “OK” in the 21st is answer from
the 20th, and “OK” in the 23rd is answer from 22nd,
and the last “bye” in 25th is answer from 24th. Besides
that see 1st is greeting, 2nd is response from greeting that be spoken by
Puji, 3rd is the first
question from Piji to Isna, and 4th is answer from Isna.
e. Insertion sequence
is a two part sequence that comes between the first and the second part of
another sequence in conversation. See 6th contains of answer and
insertion of question “do you know where she is?” See 13th “why do
you seek her?” there is insertion question after Puji answer the response from
Isna.
